Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas - This past Saturday night the Laredo Bucks retired jersey #1 in honor of their fans. The announcement came in a post game ceremony after the Bucks capped off Fan Appreciation Weekend with a 4-3 win over the Fort Worth Brahmas. The Bucks host the Corpus Christi Rayz on Friday. Face off set for 7:30 p.m. Laredo then hosts Oklahoma City on Sunday. Face off set for 4 p.m. For more information on 2005-06 Bucks season tickets or single game tickets call the Bucks office at (956) 718-BUCKS (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com.

"Two years ago our fans in Laredo were voted the best in the CHL. To me, the team and the organization they have never relinquished that title," Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski said. "We came up with the idea to retire jersey #1 to show that we will always remember our fans. We want the fans to understand how important they are to us. They cheer us when we score, they help us kill penalties. Our fans have been very loyal. They have been there when we were doing well, and also when we weren't doing well. We appreciate their support and loyalty and that is what the retiring of jersey #1 signifies."

The Bucks organization also showed their appreciation to the fans by giving away tons of special prizes throughout the weekend.

"In conversations with current players, and with players who have left and then come back to Laredo, the number one reason they want to be a past of the Laredo Bucks is because of the fan support," Bucks President John Beckelhymer said. "The support of Bucks fans helps coach to recruit because Laredo has a reputation as a fan friendly place to play. In accordance with Fan Appreciation Weekend we wanted to do something to honor the fans, because they are number one with the Bucks organization, owners, coaches, players and front office. We wanted to say thank you with a symbol of their contribution to the team."

The retired jersey #1 will be placed in the trophy case in the foyer of the LEC. The trophy case contains the President's Cup and Governors' Cup captured by the Bucks in the 2003-04 CHL season.

"The Bucks player's names are on the President's Cup, but that is only half the story," Beckelhymer continued. "The other half is the fans. The retired jersey number #1 represents their contribution to the Bucks success."

In three and a half season of play at home in the regular season 708,662 fans have watched the Bucks, for an average of 6,271 per game. Including playoffs the number rises to 862,787 total fans thru the LEC turnstiles.
