Northeast Division Race

The SteelHounds earned three of four points last week pulling to within seven points of first place Bossier-Shreveport who has points in eight of their last 10 games (5-2-3). The Hounds currently sit in second place one point ahead of Memphis and three points ahead of Fort Worth who is 3-6-1 in their last 10 games. The Mudbugs play three games-in-three night beginning on Friday when they travel to Odessa (20-12-4) and continue back home with games against Fort Worth (12-21-5) and Memphis (15-19-1) in the CenturyTel Center.

Ben's The Man

Rookie Ben Manny made quite an impression in his second weekend with the Hounds scoring two goals and adding an assist in two games versus Odessa. Manny was signed by the Hounds on January 11th after playing 20 games with Knoxville of the SPHL. On Friday, Manny scored early in the second period giving Youngstown a 3-1 lead, later the Hounds fell 4-3 in a shootout. The following night, Manny scored late in the third period giving Youngstown a 2-0 lead, eventually winning 2-1 (making Manny's marker the game winner). Over the weekend, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire alumnus was a plus- 3.

Sellout Crowds Helping Hounds Gain On Mudbugs

The SteelHounds are coming off a 2-1 victory on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 5,717 at the Chevrolet Centre. The sellout marked the second time this season and the second time in the last three games the SteelHounds have played in front of a sellout crowd (5,717 also were on hand on January 14th versus Wichita). The Hounds have also announced that their next home game, February 1st versus Memphis, is sold out as well.

Chinelli Sees First Action with Hounds

Prior to Friday's game versus Odessa, the Hounds made a trade with the Oklahoma City Blazers acquiring forward Mario Chinelli in exchange for Scott Barnes. Chinelli had 21 points (6-15=21) in 35 games with the Blazers.

Christian Scores Again

All-Star Jeff Christian notched points in each of the teams games last week giving him 33 goals and 23 assists on the season. His 56 points are second in the CHL to Amarillo's Derek Hahn (69 points). Christian's 33 goals are four better than second place Joe Blaznek for the league's goal scoring crown. The Hounds Captain has points in 11 of the team's last 13 games amassing 11 goals and seven assists over those 11 games.

St. Germain Continues To Be Workhorse

Goaltender David St. Germain is coming off another outstanding weekend earning three of four points for his team in two games versus the Southwest Division leading Odessa Jackalopes. In two games versus the Jacks, St. Germain made 55 saves on 59 shots (.932). Over his last six games, St. Germain has allowed just 11 goals on 182 shots (.940) and has posted a record of 3-2-1. St. Germain has started each of the last 12 games and has played in 21 straight games. On the season, St. Germain leads the CHL in minutes played (1788:59) and saves (957).
