Saskatoon Blades News Release

Saskatoon, SK - The Everett Silvertips took their first loss in franchise history against the Saskatoon Blades Friday night, losing 1-0 in Overtime. Shayne Barrie, in his second consecutive start, made 35 saves in a strong effort against the blades. This brings the ‘Tips record to 9-7-2-0 with 20 points in 18 games played standing five points behind second place Tri-City Americans in the U.S. Division. The Silvertips are now 6-3-1-0 in their last 10 games. Everett now hops on the bus to Prince Albert to play the Raiders Friday night for their third game of their six game Eastern Conference trip.

Not much in the way of offense tonight as the stars of the night would be Everett's Shayne Barrie and Saskatoon's Braden Holtby. Everett came out hard in the first period after their 4-1 win in Regina. In a replay of Wednesday night Daniel Bartek and Jesse Burt broke into the Blades zone on a 2 on 1 shorthanded rush. Burt fed Bartek a beautiful pass but only to be denied by Holtby diving post to post to make a huge save. Not to be outdone Everett's Barrie came up with some spectacular saves and stopped all 25 shots faced in the first two periods.

Both teams had many chances on the man advantage tonight including 5 on 3's for both teams, but strong goaltending kept the score tied after regulation and moved the scoreless tie into overtime. It didn't take long to decide a winner as Saskatoon's Milan Kytnar scored the game winning goal 38 seconds into the extra period. Kytnar took the puck after a rebound from a Stefan Elliott shot and moved past Barrie on his backhand scoring the game winner.
