Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release
With a mission to make a positive impact in communities across the province and respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club, alongside its foundation are thrilled to bring 140 players and coaches from the Northern Saskatchewan Football League to the final regular season home game on November 13th and have them experience all that is Rider Nation.
"The Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation are committed to Truth and Reconciliation and in response to Calls to Action #88 and #91, we are thrilled to invite the Northern Saskatchewan Football League to the city for a weekend full of football and inspiration," said Cindy Fuchs, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Roughrider foundation.
The Northern Saskatchewan Football League was designed to ensure that financial barriers to playing the game are removed so all children are able to participate. The co-ed league spans over seven northern communities, providing youth with a hobby that teaches teamwork and discipline and ensuring they keep active.
"As someone that has been part of this league for seven years, I have seen what the Riders have done to build the momentum of our league," said Ryan Karakochuk, Commissioner for the Northern Saskatchewan Football League.
"I know there is less than a handful of players that have ever been to a live Rider game, and thanks to the Roughrider Foundation, we are going to make this a reality."
Following game day, players and coaches with the Northern Saskatchewan Football League will enjoy a special breakfast on Sunday, November 14th, where guest speakers will teach and inspire.
Guests include Saskatchewan Roughriders Defensive Coordinator Jason Shivers, quarterback Mason Fine, Roughrider alumnus and Plaza of Honour Recipient Neil Hughes, Saskatchewan Roughrider President Craig Reynolds, Roughrider Foundation Executive Director Cindy Fuchs, and representatives from the Northern Saskatchewan Football League.
Media is invited to attend the breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Ramada. Select interviews will be available following the conclusion of the program at 10 a.m. Please respond with your attendance to Karlie.mcgeough@saskriders.com by end of day Friday for details on filming and interview opportunities that are available.
