SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors were today named the 2013-14 NBA D-League Development Champion. The annual award is designed to recognize the NBA D-League team that best embodies the league's goals of developing NBA basketball talent via GATORADE Call-Ups and assignments.

The Warriors earned 24.75 total points in a scoring system established by the league's Basketball Rules Committee (BRC). The Canton Charge finished second in scoring with 24.5 points while the Rio Grande Valley Vipers rounded out the top three teams, finishing with 21.5 points.

"This league-wide recognition validates what the Golden State Warriors organization was setting out to accomplish when we launched the team in Santa Cruz two years ago," said Santa Cruz Warriors General Manager and Golden State Warriors Assistant General Manager Kirk Lacob. "As we look to the future, we are eager to build off this momentum by continuing to develop high-quality talent on and off the court."

The scoring system awards two points for each unique player and full-time basketball operations staff member call-up, with an additional one point allotted per unique player who remains on an NBA roster for at least 21 consecutive days. An additional two points are awarded for each unique player assignment, with a quarter point added for each subsequent assignment, up to a maximum of three total points per assigned player. Points were accruable between May 1, 2013 and April 30, 2014.

A total of five Golden State Warriors (Kent Bazemore, MarShon Brooks, Dewayne Dedmon, Ognjen Kuzmic and Nemanja Nedovic) were assigned to Santa Cruz during the regular season, playing a total of 48 games for the team. Three Santa Cruz Warriors earned a 2013-14 NBA D-League-record eight GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA: Hilton Armstrong (Golden State three separate times throughout the season), Seth Curry (Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers), and Dedmon (Golden State, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic), while both Armstrong and Dedmon spent at least 21 consecutive days on their respective NBA rosters. In addition, two basketball operations staff members earned Call-Ups: Assistant Coach Vitaly Potapenko (Cleveland Cavaliers, Assistant Director of Player Development) and Director of Player Personnel Sammy Gelfand (Golden State Warriors, Coordinator, Basketball Analytics).

In total, the 2013-14 NBA D-League season saw 62 NBA players assigned to their NBA D-League affiliate 187 times, both records. Additionally, 37 unique NBA D-League players earned 49 GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA, the most for a full NBA season.
