
Santa Cruz Warriors Earn 2013-14 NBA D-League "Development Champion" Award

NEW YORK, June 18, 2014 - The Santa Cruz Warriors were today named the 2013-14 NBA D-League Development Champion. The annual award is designed to recognize the NBA D-League team that best embodies the league's goals of developing NBA basketball talent via GATORADE Call-Ups and assignments.
The Warriors earned 24.75 total points in a scoring system established by the league's Basketball Rules Committee (BRC). The Canton Charge finished second in scoring with 24.5 points while the Rio Grande Valley Vipers rounded out the top three teams, finishing with 21.5 points.
The scoring system awards two points for each unique player and full-time basketball operations staff member call-up, with an additional one point allotted per unique player who remains on an NBA roster for at least 21 consecutive days. An additional two points are awarded for each unique player assignment, with a quarter point added for each subsequent assignment, up to a maximum of three total points per assigned player. Points were accruable between May 1, 2013 and April 30, 2014.
A total of five Golden State Warriors (Kent Bazemore, MarShon Brooks, Dewayne Dedmon, Ognjen Kuzmic and Nemanja Nedovic) were assigned to Santa Cruz during the regular season, playing a total of 48 games for the team. Three Santa Cruz Warriors earned a 2013-14 NBA D-League record eight GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA: Hilton Armstrong (Golden State), Seth Curry (Cleveland Cavaliers, Memphis Grizzlies), and Dedmon (Golden State, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers), while both Armstrong and Dedmon spent at least 21 consecutive days on their respective NBA rosters.
In total, the 2013-14 NBA D-League season saw 62 NBA players assigned to their NBA D-League affiliate 187 times, both records. Additionally, 37 unique NBA D-League players earned 49 GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA, the most for a full NBA season.
The Warriors join the 2011-12 Los Angeles D-Fenders and the 2012-13 Rio Grande Valley Vipers as winners of the annual award.
