Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (3-6) fell to the South Bay Lakers (5-1) at Kaiser Permanente Arena in the second game of the weekend's back-to-back, 107-103. The loss tonight marks the 100th consecutive sellout in franchise history, dating back to March 12, 2016.
The first quarter started off competitive with six lead changes, but the Lakers pulled away to take a slim lead, closing out the quarter 22-19. The Lakers kicked off the second quarter with a 16-0 run, but the Sea Dubs followed with an 11-0 run mid-way through the quarter bringing the score to within five. The Warriors offense continued to close the lead thanks to a late second quarter three by forward L.J. Figueroa to end the first half down by two, 50-48.
The Warriors came back to take the lead in the third quarter with help from nine points by Phoenix Suns flex-assigned two-way forward Chandler Hutchison, heading into the final frame with a 77-74 lead. The Lakers came back in the fourth quarter to lead by as many as seven points, but a three pointer from Golden State Warriors two-way guard Moses Moody with 13 seconds remaining brought the Warriors within two points. The Warriors late comeback was not enough to put them ahead, ultimately falling to the Lakers, 107-103.
Moody led the Warriors with 27 points and added seven rebounds and forward Jonathan Kuminga, on assignment from Golden State, followed with 21 points and six rebounds. Hutchison closed out the game with 16 points for the Sea Dubs.
Guard Mac McClung led the Lakers with 26 points and added five rebounds and forward Stanley Johnson finished the night with a double-double (15 points and 13 rebounds). Guard Frank Mason III added 15 points and six rebounds in the Lakers win.
The Sea Dubs embark on a two-game road trip to Agua Caliente on December 8 and 9. For more information on the Santa Cruz Warriors, visit santacruzbasketball.com or call (831) 713-4400.
