Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
HENDERSON, NV - The Santa Cruz Warriors (7-3) beat the NBA G League Ignite (2-9), 153-118, on Friday evening at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, NV.
Two-way guard Lester Quinones led the Warriors in their highest-scoring effort in franchise history, contributing 32 points and five assists to the win. Forward Gui Santos, on assignment from Golden State, followed closely behind with 26 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Two-way guard Jerome Robinson and two-way center Usman Garuba both added 17 points, and guard Kendric Davis rounded out the dominant Warriors offense with 16 points and five assists.
The Ignite were led by forward Ronald Holland II, who notched his fifth consecutive game scoring 20+ points with 31 points and eight rebounds to end the night. Forward Tyler Smith scored 22 points off the bench, and guard London Johnson added 20 points and four assists.
The Warriors started the contest strong, securing seven offensive rebounds and outscoring the Ignite 20-4 in the paint to end the first quarter with a 38-22 advantage. Santa Cruz's offensive efficiency continued in the second frame, with Quinones and Santos combining for 35 points to put the visitors ahead by as many as 23 points mid-way through the quarter. Despite a late run by the Ignite to narrow the gap to as few as 10 points, the Sea Dubs fought back to enter the break with a 75-57 lead.
The second half started with both teams exchanging blows in consecutive possessions, and the Warriors managed to weather another Ignite run to end the third period with a score of 113-93. Quinones' perimeter game allowed the Warriors to surge ahead with their largest lead of the game yet, putting the Sea Dubs up by 40 points with 4 minutes left in the final quarter. The deficit proved too large to overcome for G League Ignite and Santa Cruz came away with a 153-118 win and a new franchise record for points scored, breaking the previous record of 148 set vs. Rio Grande Valley in 2017.
The Warriors will return home to Santa Cruz to face the Salt Lake City Stars on Sunday, December 10 at 1pm at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
