
Santa Cruz Warriors Advance in Playoffs with Sweep of Mad Ants

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 110-92 Saturday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena, sweeping the series to advance to the next round against either the Bakersfield Jam or Austin Toros.
The Warriors saw a trio of players record double-doubles. Jeremy Tyler scored 25 points - with 16 in the fourth quarter - and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Hilton Armstrong notched 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Taylor Griffin chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Darington Hobson scored 15 points and dished out a game-high eight assists.
Fort Wayne was paced by Ron Howard, who scored 25 points off the bench. Tony Mitchell had 20 points and Brandon Wallace recorded the only Mad Ants double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
It took over two minutes for either team to get on the board, with Travis Leslie opening the scoring on a layup with 9:55 left in the first quarter. After trading buckets in the opening minutes, the Warriors took a 10-9 lead and never looked back, leading 52-47 at the half. Santa Cruz opened the third quarter on a 16-4 surge, and Fort Wayne never got closer than within nine points of the lead.
Santa Cruz shot 45.9% from the field, while Fort Wayne connected on 37.1%. Santa Cruz outrebounded the Mad Ants (59-42), dished out more assists (25-19) and scored more points in the paint (60-36). Fort Wayne committed fewer turnovers (20-15).
Santa Cruz will play the winner of the Bakersfield Jam-Austin Toros matchup in the next round of the playoffs. Austin is ahead 1-0 in the best-of-three series against the top-seeded Jam.
