Fort Wayne Komets News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets announced Tuesday that right winger Mitch Woods has agreed to terms and will be rejoining the Fort Wayne IHL club in January.

Woods, 23, made his career debut as a member of the 2007-08 Turner Cup Champion Komets scoring 15 goals, 36 points and leading with 297 penalty minutes in 73 games as Fort Wayne claimed the IHL's Huber Trophy and a franchise record 120 points for the season. Woods contributed a goal, five assists, and 28 penalty minutes in 13 playoff games en route to the IHL Turner Cup Championship.

"Whenever you can add a former Turner Cup winner to your team you're making your team better," said Komet general manager David Franke. "Mitch will add energy, offense and toughness to our lineup. He will also be a great addition in the locker room. However, Mitch hasn't played pro hockey in over a year so we will be patient with him and allow him enough time to get back into the groove."

Woods appeared in 12 games last season with Cincinnati of the ECHL registering a goal, three points and 41 penalty minutes. The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native is expected to arrive in Fort Wayne Jan. 11, 2010, and see action in late January.
