Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
Waldorf, MD - Southern Maryland Blue Crabs shortstop Yunesky Sanchez won the Atlantic League's Player of the Month Award the league announced on Tuesday.
Sanchez was untouchable in the month of June as he batted a whopping .450 in 27 games with four homers and 24 RBI as he garnered at least one hit in 22 of 27 games played. He had 45 hits in 100 at-bats and ended the month on a 10-game hitting streak and batted .552 (21-38) over that span.
The award comes as no surprise as Sanchez has been brilliant all season. Through July 6th, the Cuban native is hitting .402 with seven homers and 39 RBI on the season.
Sanchez becomes the second Blue Crab to win Player of the Month honors as former first baseman Ryan Mulhern won the award for the month of May.
The Blue Crabs will finish the first-half of their season as they head to Camden, NJ for a three-game series with the Riversharks beginning on Friday at 7:05. The Blue Crabs will send righty Virgil Vasquez (3-5, 5.07 ERA) to the hill against a to-be-determined pitcher for the Riversharks. The game can be heard on www.somdbluecrabs.com.
