New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, N.J. - On Monday, the official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, selected New Jersey Jackals' first baseman Kris Sanchez and right-hander Shaun Ellis as the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 25.

In seven games this week, Sanchez batted a torrid .560 with three home runs and 10 RBIs. He collected 14 hits in 25 at-bats, plated six runs and had a slugging percentage of 1.040. In the 11-10 win over the Rockland Boulders Wednesday, Sanchez went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Sanchez is currently batting .279 with nine home runs and 38 RBIs.

In two starts last week, Ellis picked up a pair of wins and allowed just three runs over 12 innings, striking out nine batters and walking just two. On July 18 at Rockland, the righty fired six shutout innings in a rain-shortened 5-0 victory that sparked a six-game winning streak.

Sanchez, a 27-year-old Arizona native, was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of Hawaii in 2007. He turned in a career year with the Can-Am League's Sussex Skyhawks in 2010, hitting .281 with 19 home runs and 74 RBIs. In 20 games in July, Sanchez* *is batting a team-best .397 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs. He has raised his batting average 81 points over his last 24 contests and is batting .518 (13-for-27) in the second half.

Ellis, who was an American Association All-Star last season after going 9-4 for the El Paso Diablos, finished the 2010 campaign with the Jackals. The 24-year-old Philadelphia native was sent back to El Paso over the offseason and began 2011 with the Diablos, but was re-acquired by New Jersey in early June and has proceeded to go 5-1 with a 4.46 ERA for the Jackals.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2011 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
