Montreal, Feb. 18 2006 - Montreal Alouettes' Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that the Alouettes have re-acquired All-Star Canadian cornerback Davis Sanchez in exchange for Reggie Durden and Rob Brown.
Sanchez started his career in Montreal in 1999 after being chosen by the Alouettes in the first round of the 1999 CFL draft. He played 17 games in his rookie year, intercepting three passes and recording 23 tackles. The East Division's Most Outstanding Canadian in 2000, he was named a division All-Star that same year after intercepting a team-leading nine passes. He moved on to the NFL for the 2001 and 2002 seasons, playing 22 games with the San Diego Chargers.
He signed with the Calgary Stampeders in 2003, where he intercepted one pass and was named a West Division All-Star. He was then traded back to the Alouettes for Andrew Noel, the rights to Joey Bonaventura and a draft pick. He had a solid 2004 season in Montreal, recording three interceptions and 41 tackles en route to his second East Division All-Star selection.
In 2005, he signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Eskimos, recording one interception and 28 tackles.
