San Jose Recalls Goaltender Thomas Heemskerk from Thunder to Worcester Sharks

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announced San Jose has recalled rookie goaltender Thomas Heemskerk from the Thunder to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League.

Heemskerk, 21, should be available for Worcester's next game on Wednesday in a 4:00 p.m. faceoff against Albany.

The 6-foot and 195 pound goaltender has collected a 13-12-0 record, .893 save percentage and 3.27 goals against average in 25 games this season for the Thunder.

He was originally assigned from Worcester on Oct. 19, 2011 and earned a win in his pro debut on Oct. 22 at Colorado with 27 saves.

Heemskerk was signed by San Jose to a standard entry level contract on September 29, 2009 and has suited up for the Sharks in the last three preseason rookie tournaments. He went 1-1-0 with a 2.19 goals against average and .929 save percentage in two games against Calgary and Winnipeg in the 2011 Vancouver Canucks YoungStars Tournament.

Heemskerk previously appeared in 179 career junior games with Moose Jaw, Everett and Kootenay of the Western Hockey League, earning a 91-58-19 record, 2.81 goals against average, .910 save percentage and nine shutouts.

Currently, the Thunder are carrying two goaltenders, Jody O'Neill and Olivier Roy, on the active roster.
