SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave Fútbol Club announced today the signing of goalkeeper Shae Yanez to its 2023 roster on a two-year deal with an option for the 2025 season.
In exchange for an agreed upon transfer fee, Yanez joins the San Diego Wave from London City Lionesses in the Women's Championship League where she has been developing abroad for three seasons.
"We're very excited to welcome Shae to the team" said San Diego Wave FC Head Coach Casey Stoney. "She's taken a unique path in her career and has established herself overseas over the past several years. We look forward to continuing to develop Shae here at the Wave and adding even greater depth to our goalkeeping unit."
The goalkeeper signed her first professional contract with the Washington Spirit in 2019 and made her debut on Oct. 5, 2019, against Orlando Pride, subbing into the match in the 79th minute. Yanez was then nominated for NWSL Save of the Week after a reflex save in stoppage time of the Spirit's 3-0 win.
Yanez competed collegiately for the University of Tennessee where she set the program's single-season records for save percentage (.856), goals-against average (0.66) and win percentage (.795).
After defeating Angel City FC 2-0 this past weekend, Wave FC continues its 2023 campaign this Saturday, April 29, at Snapdragon Stadium. Scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. PT, the match will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
