Kansas City Current News Release
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Current defender Mallory Weber has suffered an injury to her right knee, including a re-tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee. The veteran defender will be placed on the Season Ending Injury (SEI) list for the remainder of the 2023 season.
"Knowing how hard she worked to get back onto the field, we are all devastated for Mallory," said general manager Camille Ashton. "Everyone here is committed to being with her throughout her recovery journey."
"I'm heartbroken and devastated to be going through this again," said Weber. "The Current have been so supportive as they have given me the space to process this news and then plan for recovery. I am thankful for them, my teammates, friends and family as I begin the process once again."
Weber originally tore her ACL last April in a match against the Portland Thorns. After surgery and nearly a year of rehabilitation and recovery, Weber made her return to the field in the 69th minute of Kansas City's victory over the Houston Dash on April 19. Unfortunately, shortly after her substitution onto the field, Weber re-injured her knee and was forced to leave the game.
A seven-year veteran of the NWSL, Weber was an original member of Kansas City's NWSL team in 2021. She has nearly 5,000 career minutes in 83 games played. Although she will not be able to play, Weber will remain with the team throughout the season as she recovers and rehabilitates her knee.
