San Diego Wave FC News Release

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave Fútbol Club (7-5-4) fell tonight to Orlando Pride (4-4-6) 0-1 in a difficult night at Torero Stadium.

San Diego Wave FC kicked off to a good start with its first shot in the 5th minute, which Alex Morgan sent to the right post from the center of the box. Throughout the match, Wave FC made 19 shots to Orlando's eight and looked the better team but were unable to finish their chances tonight to secure the win.

The match result came down to a called handball inside the Wave FC box in the 23rd minute. Orlando Pride's Meggie Dougherty Howard converted from the spot, sealing the win for the away side.

After numerous chances and strong plays from San Diego in the second half, the final whistle blew to a final of 0-1, and the team now looks ahead to next weekend. Following the final whistle, goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan earned a straight red card for dissent.

San Diego Wave FC closes out its stretch of home games at Torero Stadium next Saturday, August 20, against the Houston Dash (7-4-4), before the team moves into the new state-of-the-art Snapdragon Stadium on September 17. August 20 is Hispanic Heritage Night, presented by XEWT Channel 12, and will be a celebratory night with a headband giveaway at the gate, limited-edition merchandise, food from Daggos and Belindas, a vibrant plaza atmosphere, live mariachi music and more.
