San Diego Sockers News Release
Back on the Good Foot
San Diego went on the road last weekend and renewed their winning ways, defeating the Tacoma Stars by a final score of 7-3. The Sockers have won 17 consecutive regular season road matches, dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Last year, San Diego went 4-0 in Tacoma during the regular season and playoffs.
Slav Opens His Account
Top offseason acquisition Slavisa Ubiparipovic recorded an assist in the Sockers' season opening loss to the Cal Express, but broke out against Tacoma with a pair of third quarter goals, including the eventual game-winner. Ubiparipovic is coming off a career-best 40 point season with Utica City FC.
Kaptain Kraig
Sockers captain and all-time leading scorer Kraig Chiles suffered through a frustrating season opener, where he scored one goal but missed several chances for more.
Against the Stars, Chiles led all players with a four-point night, registering a pair of second quarter goals before adding two second half assists.
Boris Bounces Back
Defending MASL Goalkeeper of the Year Boris Pardo registered ten saves in San Diego's 7-3 win over the Tacoma Stars. Pardo used a kick save to deny Tacoma's Mike Ramos of a breakaway goal, and stopped a point blank shot in the closing seconds. Last season, Pardo went 22-1 in 23 starts with a 3.90 GAA.
Home Heavy to Start
The Sockers will open with seven of their first nine matches at home, before a midseason road swing which will see nine of ten away from San Diego in the months of January and February. The Sockers close with home matches in four of their final five fixtures this season.
