SOCKERS OPEN SEASON ON SUNDAY

The Sockers will be the last team to start the MASL season when they challenge Rio Grande Valley on Sunday, December 15. 5:05 p.m. at Pechanga Arena San Diego. Fans will receive a free Ron Newman Commemorative Cup while supplies last. The team will also honor coach Newman and his family with a pregame ceremony.

NEW "SOCKERS ARE AWESOME" CAMPAIGN TO LAUNCH THIS WEEK

"The Sockers Are Awesome" marketing campaign will begin this week with a series of commercial spots featuring goalkeeper Boris Pardo in a variety of job occupations promoting the team.

Kraig Chiles' power play goal at 5:06 of the fourth quarter snapped a 3-3 tie, and Cesar Cerda added an empty-netter from beyond midfield as the 14-time champion San Diego Sockers defeated the Dallas Sidekicks 5-3 in a Major Arena Soccer League preseason match at the Allen Event Center. Boris Pardo made eight saves in net to preserve the victory in San Diego's lone preseason contest.

HOME GAME #1

Finished 2017-18 scored 14 points (12-2=14). Needs to play in 1 game to reach 200 career games played.

Ruiz compiled 21 points in 21 games played last year. His offensive production will be key in 2018-19.

The team's all-time leading scorer needs only 1 assist for a total of 150 in his career.
