
San Diego Sockers November 7th Game Notes

San Diego Sockers News Release
SOCKERS AND SOLES DE SONORA SET FOR THE REMATCH
Soles de Sonora will play its first ever home match in franchise history when it takes on the San Diego Sockers on Saturday night at 6:00 P.M. PT.
The two sides faced off in Soles' first ever game On October 24, 2015. Sonora got off to a perfect start, scoring eight seconds into the match, but the Sockers were too much to handle as they ran out of the Valley View Casino Center 7-5 winners.
Sonora showed it is not just in the Major Arena Soccer League to make up the numbers. The Mexican side had the Sockers chasing the match until Erick Reveles Tovar made it 4-3 in favor of the Sockers at the 11:07 mark of the second quarter. Frank Tayou's second goal of the evening in the early stages of the third quarter brought the game back to 4-4, but Anthony Medina scored off a feed from Kraig Chiles to make it 5-4 and the Sockers wouldn't trail again en route to their 7-5 victory.
LAST SEASON: Playoff Heartbreak
The Sockers won the Pacific Division with a 16-4 record, but fell in the Pacific Division Final, 7-6 in overtime to the Las Vegas Legends.
NO KRAIG CHILES
The Sockers will be without their leading scorer Kraig Chiles who will be in Costa Rica with the U.S. National Futsal team. In the first meeting between these two sides, Chiles recorded 2 goals and 2 assists, but other players will be called on to step up as the captain trades in his Sockers' jersey for one with the national team crest.
IRON MAN MEDINA:
Anthony Medina, who has been with the team since it's reincarnation in 2009-2010, has played every game over the last four seasons. The El Cajon, California native continued that streak into a 5th straight season and marked the occasion with a goal against Soles. An appearance in Mexico will mark his 99th game for the Sockers. Medina has 75 goals and 48 assists. He is also is the only player to have appeared in every match of the Sockers historic run of 48 wins from December 29, 2010- January, 27 2013. A record that still stands as the longest winning streak of any U.S. professional sports franchise.
THE SOCKERS AGAINST MEXICAN OPPOSITION:
Going back to the 2011-2012 season, the Sockers are 11-1 against Mexican opposition including a 7-4 playoff win against the Mexico Toros during the 2013-2014 season. San Diego faced Mexican opposition six times during that campaign, going 5-1 with its only loss coming at home to Monterrey, 6-5 in a shootout.
During that span the Sockers are 5-0 on Mexican turf.
The Sockers did not face any teams teams from its neighbors to the south last season, but won the first of its six international battles to start the 2015-2016 season. San Diego face Sonora three more times this year and Atletico Baja twice as well.
ABOUT SOLES DE SONORA
Soles de Sonora are an expansion club based in Hermosillo, the capital city of Sonora, Mexico. Despite being new to the game, Sonora have an experienced general manager in Jose Luis, the man responsible for building Monterrey's title winning side last season. Coming with him from Monterrey is goalkeeper Diego Reynoso. The 26-year-old shot- stopper went 8-1 before injury curtailed his season. He started this year with 17 saves on 25 shots faced and an assist in the loss to the Sockers. There is also an international flavor to the Mexican side with Portugal's David Parente joining after stints with the Tulsa Revolution and Oxford City. The club is captained by Frank Tayou. The 25-year-old Cameroonian played collegiately for West Virginia before playing with the Las Vegas Legends and the Tulsa Revolution.
