San Diego FC Travels to Face Minnesota United FC Saturday

SAN DIEGO - San Diego FC (SDFC) hits the road this weekend as the Club travels to face Minnesota United FC at Allianz Field on Saturday, Aug. 1. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. PT, with live coverage available on Apple TV, along with an English radio broadcast on San Diego Sports 760 AM.

Building Momentum

SDFC (5-7-5, 20 points) heads to Minnesota following a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas last Saturday at Snapdragon Stadium, snapping a three-match winless streak and earning the Club's first MLS win since May 13.

Midfielder Alejandro Alvarado Jr. scored his first career MLS goal with a long-range strike early in the second half, while goalkeeper CJ Dos Santos recorded his first clean sheet of the season. Defender Manu Duah also registered his first career MLS assist on the match-winning goal as San Diego controlled much of the match, finishing with 69 percent possession and 789 completed passes.

Saturday's match marks another important opportunity for SDFC as it continues a busy stretch that includes both MLS regular season play and the upcoming Leagues Cup.

Opposition Watch

Minnesota United FC (6-6-5, 23 points) returns home after playing to a scoreless draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps last Saturday at Allianz Field.

Minnesota enters the weekend sitting just ahead of San Diego in the Western Conference standings, making Saturday's contest an important opportunity for both clubs as they continue their push toward the postseason.

New Faces Continue to Integrate

SDFC's newest additions continue settling into the squad after arriving during the summer transfer window.

Defender Dagur Dan Thórhallsson was included on the matchday roster for the first time against FC Dallas following his signing, while defender Ian Murphy made his Club debut the previous week at Colorado and was available again last Saturday. Designated Player Elias Achouri was officially introduced to fans and media prior to kickoff and could continue moving closer to making his SDFC debut pending league and federation approvals.

Alvarado Opens His MLS Account

Alejandro Alvarado Jr. delivered a memorable moment against FC Dallas, scoring his first MLS goal to secure all three points for San Diego.

The goal made Alvarado the 10th different SDFC player to score during the 2026 MLS Regular Season and highlighted the Club's balanced attack. The midfielder has appeared in eight league matches this season and made his first MLS start in last week's victory.

Looking Ahead

Following Saturday's match, SDFC travels to Mexico City to begin its second Leagues Cup campaign, competing against LIGA MX team, Club América at Estadio Banorte on Thursday, Aug. 7.
