San Diego FC Hosts 2026 Baja Cup Presented by Modelo against Club Tijuana on Wednesday

SAN DIEGO - San Diego FC (SDFC) will return to Snapdragon Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 16, to host Club Tijuana in the second edition of the Baja Cup presented by Modelo. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT, with the winner claiming the Baja Cup trophy.

More than a match, the Baja Cup celebrates the shared football culture connecting San Diego and Tijuana. Taking place on Mexican Independence Day, the annual friendly brings both sides of the border together for a night of fútbol, community and regional pride - with the Baja Cup Trophy and local bragging rights on the line.

SDFC enters Wednesday's matchup with an 8-10-6 record and 30 points in the 2026 MLS Regular Season following a 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union on Sunday night. Club Tijuana enters the contest with a 4-1-2 record in Liga MX play after falling 1-0 to Club Querétaro on Friday.

Fan Fest

Fans can arrive early to Snapdragon Stadium and enjoy SDFC's Baja Cup Fan Fest Presented by Adriana's Insurance from 4:00-6:00 p.m. PT ahead of the 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The pre-match celebration will feature music from DJ Beto and hosts Santa Mykah and Danny Os, followed by live performances from a mariachi group and Aztec dancers, as well as lucha libre from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Fans will also have the opportunity to meet boxing champions Pitbull Cruz and Jesus Ramos during a special meet and greet at 5:30 p.m. PT.

Fan Fest will offer a variety of interactive experiences, including a player meet and greet, photobooth, face painting, airbrush tattoo station, bracelet bar, haircuts and hair braiding, as well as access to the SDFC merchandise trailer.

Additional entertainment and activations will include appearances from Chrome Crew and Captain Tsubasa, while fans can enjoy food from local vendors including Gringas, Los Chuchys, El Camarón Negro and Mariscos & Birria El Prieto.

Keeper of the FLOW: Municipal de Tijuana Little League

Tomorrow's Baja Cup match will feature a special pre-match moment as the Municipal de Tijuana Little League team is honored as the night's Keeper of the FLOW. Representing Mexico at the 2026 Little League Baseball World Series, the Tijuana team captured the pride of its community and showcased the talent and spirit of the region on the world stage. The Flow, central to SDFC's identity, is represented by 18 lines in the Club's crest - one for each city in San Diego County, Woven Into One. On matchdays, the Flow is ceremoniously unleashed just before kickoff, with previous Keepers including SDFC investors Manny Machado and Issa Rae, legendary wrestler Rey Mysterio, and others. This tradition embodies the rhythm, passion, and unity that connect our region and fuel SDFC.

Defending the Baja Cup

SDFC and Club Tijuana will meet for the second time in the Baja Cup on Wednesday, exactly one year after their inaugural matchup.

In the first edition of the cross-border competition, SDFC earned a 4-2 victory over Club Tijuana on Sept. 16, 2025, to claim the inaugural Baja Cup. The trophy remains with the winning club until the next meeting between the two sides, giving Wednesday's matchup added significance as SDFC looks to defend its title on home soil.

Another Meeting with Club Tijuana

Wednesday's match will mark the third all-time meeting between SDFC and Club Tijuana, with all three contests taking place at Snapdragon Stadium.

The two clubs most recently faced off in the 2026 Leagues Cup on Aug. 9, when SDFC secured a 1-0 victory. The result marked the first official competition meeting between the clubs and gave SDFC its second consecutive win over Tijuana.

SDFC will look to continue that momentum Wednesday as the two sides meet for the second edition of the Baja Cup.

The Baja Cup celebrates the unique connection between San Diego and Tijuana, while bringing together two clubs separated by an international border but connected by the region they represent.

Back at Snapdragon Stadium

SDFC returns home looking to bounce back after dropping consecutive MLS regular season matches against San Jose and Philadelphia.

The Club has posted a 6-4-3 record at home in MLS play this season and has scored 31 goals at Snapdragon Stadium in league action. Wednesday's match provides SDFC with an opportunity to return to winning ways in front of its home fans while defending the Baja Cup.

SDFC will then hit the road for its first-ever meeting with Inter Miami CF on Sunday, Sept. 20 on MLS Sunday Night Soccer presented by Continental Tire. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. PT at Nu Stadium, with live coverage available on Apple TV and radio coverage available on San Diego Sports 760 AM.
