GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Minnesota United continues its homestand on Saturday, hosting San Diego FC at Allianz Field during the Black Excellence game, presented by nVent. The Loons will look to build on a strong defensive performance against Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps FC and secure their first victory since returning from the FIFA World Cup break.

Minnesota earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Vancouver on Saturday in its return to Allianz Field. The Loons' adjusted formation provided greater support in the attack, with forwards Mamadou Dieng and Kelvin Yeboah creating opportunities and combining effectively up front. Minnesota remained organized defensively to keep the Whitecaps off the scoresheet, where goalkeeper Drake Callender earned his fifth clean sheet of the regular season.

San Diego enters Saturday's contest following a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas at Snapdragon Stadium, snapping a three-game winless streak. Midfielder Alejandro Alvarado Jr. scored the game-winning goal with a strike from outside the penalty area in the 50th minute, marking his first career MLS goal. San Diego continued to create opportunities throughout the match and will look to carry that attacking momentum into its visit to Saint Paul.

Saturday's match marks the second meeting between Minnesota and San Diego this season. The two sides played to a 2-1 Minnesota victory at Snapdragon Stadium in April, with defender Kyle Duncan scoring his first MNUFC goal and Kelvin Yeboah scoring the second before second half. The Loons will look to remain compact defensively, limit San Diego's opportunities in transition and turn their promising attacking sequences into more consistent chances in the final third as they search for three points at home.
