San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC will visit Midland-Odessa Sockers FC (NPSL) in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tonight at Grande Communications Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The match marks the first in the 2018 edition of the tournament for SAFC.
The Alamo City club heads into the match after recording a 0-0 draw on the road against in-state rivals RGV FC on Saturday. The Alamo City club is currently 3-2-4 in USL play, and enters its first Open Cup match in the midst of a four-game unbeaten run in league play.
The Sockers will host SAFC after earning a convincing 3-0 win against the Lakeland Tropics in the first round of the tournament on May 9. The club heads into its second Open Cup match after earning a 1-0 win on the road against FC Brownsville on Saturday in its first match of the NPSL season.
Should SAFC earn a win in Midland, the club would then host its third-round match at Toyota Field against the winner of the second-round match between Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (USL) and FC Denver (Colorado Premier League).
Last season, SAFC bowed out of the tournament in the third round after falling to Tulsa Roughnecks FC (USL) in a penalty shootout after 120 minutes of scoreless play.
Following the match in Midland, San Antonio FC will return to USL action just three days later as they host Tulsa Roughnecks FC at Toyota Field on Saturday, May 19 during Military Appreciation Night, presented by Toyota.
