San Antonio FC Hosts Phoenix Rising FC at Toyota Field

September 7, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TX (Sept. 7, 2018) - San Antonio FC (11-9-7) will host Phoenix Rising FC (16-6-5) at Toyota Field on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. as the club hosts 'Our Future' Night presented by Cheerios. SAFC will look to build on a two-game winning streak as they continue their push for a playoff position.

SAFC heads into the match after earning a 2-1 win on the road against Western Conference leaders Real Monarchs SLC on Monday. The Alamo City club will look to earn its third consecutive win in front of its home fans as they face another tough opponent in PRFC, who are in second place in the West.

Phoenix Rising FC will look to build on a four-game winning streak on the road. The club most recently earned a 1-0 win at home against RGV FC on Wednesday and has played three of their last four matches at home.

SAFC is 3-2-1 all-time against PRFC and has never lost to the Arizona club at Toyota Field. San Antonio FC recorded a season sweep against the club in 2017 with two victories but fell against them on the road in their most recent matchup on August 22.

The match marks just the second at home for SAFC in the span of over a month. Home field advantage will be key for the club as they look to continue their push to secure a playoff position. SAFC is currently in eighth place in the standings and could move into sixth place with a win pending results around the league. The club is currently just six points out of the top four in the West.

"Our mentality is always that we need to win, and we want to go into the match strong," SAFC midfielder Pecka said. "We're playing at home and we want to get a win for our fans and show that we're deserving of a place in the playoffs."

San Antonio FC will continue to count on forward Ever Guzman as well as newcomer Lance Laing in the attack. Guzman currently leads the team with seven goals, while Laing has tallied a goal and an assist in his last two matches with the club. SAFC will be without midfielder Omar Gordon, however, as the midfielder is currently away on international duty with the Jamaican National Team. On the defensive end, SAFC will have Moises Hernandez available after adding the center-back on loan from FC Dallas on Thursday.

The match marks 'Our Future' Night at Toyota Field presented by Cheerios. Throughout the night, SAFC will celebrate the past, present, and future of pro soccer in San Antonio by recognizing players from the SAFC Pro Academy, its Elite Training Program, and introducing San Antonio Thunder apparel.
