San Antonio FC Hosts Fresno FC in Cinco de Mayo Match at Toyota Field
May 4, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (2-2-3) will host Fresno FC (2-1-5) at Toyota Field on Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. The match will mark the second time the two clubs face each other in the span of two weeks, while SAFC will host its first-ever 'Extra Time' postgame party in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.
SAFC will look to earn its first consecutive wins of the season after earning a 3-1 win against Las Vegas Lights last week. The victory marked the club's second of the season and first on the road.
The win ended a scoreless streak for the club while marking the 11th time the Alamo City club has scored three goals in a single match, as well as the most goals scored by the team in a match this season. Six different players have contributed to the club's seven-goal tally in 2018, while five have tallied at least one assist.
"Obviously when the ball hits the back of the net, it allows everyone to take a nice big breath. It's something very positive that we've been working on," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "The guys have been working hard and extremely well on both sides of the ball, and in training we've been able to create more chances."
Fresno FC will look to earn a win on the road as they visit Toyota Field for the first time in franchise history. The foxes tied their four previous matches, earning their last win on March 31. The club currently sits in 8th place in the Western Conference standings, and has recorded just one loss this season, which came in their inaugural match on March 17.
The match marks the second time SAFC and Fresno FC meet in the span of just two weeks. SAFC visited the Foxes on April 22, where they earned a 0-0 draw at Chukchansi Park. For the Alamo City club, facing the same opponent in quick succession provides an opportunity to improve on the team's past performance.
"For us, it keeps everything fresh," Powell said. "The players get presented fresh information from a previous game, and we all want to make sure we perform better than we did the first time we faced them."
San Antonio FC will host its first-ever 'Extra Time' postgame party following the final whistle on Saturday. The party will take place on the east concourse of the stadium and feature a live mariachi band, games, $1 beer and sodas courtesy of Bud Light, $3 frozen margaritas, and will introduce The Tap Inn, a modified trailer that will feature eight new craft beers that were not previously offered at the venue. Fans will also receive a 10 percent discount on SAFC gear at the Soccer Factory tent during 'Extra Time.'
