San Antonio FC News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TX- San Antonio FC fell 1-3 to Saint Louis FC at Toyota Field on Saturday night in front of 6,251 fans. A goal from Carlos Alvarez and a fierce attacking performance were not enough for the team to salvage any points at home in their penultimate home match of the season.

"Right now we're disappointed," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "We still have everything to fight for in the playoffs. We have a game in hand and are two points behind, but obviously time is running out and there are fewer and fewer games, so we need to make sure we put a solid performance together for Wednesday night."

Saint Louis FC opened the scoring in the 12th minute when forward Irvin Herrera found the end of an air through-ball from Jason Plumhoff and headed the ball in for the 1-0 lead. The duo combined again just four minutes later when Herrera scored again to earn the 2-0 lead.

SAFC midfielder Carlos Alvarez narrowed the gap in the 35th minute when a through-ball from Rafa Castillo found him in on goal. Alvarez fired low to put the score 1-2. The goal was Alvarez's third in the team's previous four home matches and fourth overall this season. Saint Louis FC widened the gap yet again in the 54th minute when Herrera scored his third goal of the night, earning the visitors the 3-1 lead.

SAFC was unable to score again despite creating several chances in the second half and outshooting the opposition 23-13, tying the team's all-time high shot count for the third time this season.

San Antonio FC will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14 as they travel to face Real Monarchs SLC. The team will then return home to host their last home match of the season on Sept. 17 against Tulsa Roughnecks FC.
