PHOENIX, AZ - San Antonio FC (9-8-7) fell 0-4 to Phoenix Rising FC (14-6-5) at Phoenix Rising FC Soccer Complex on Saturday night. The match marked the last of three consecutive on the road for SAFC.
"We need to have a very short-term memory after tonight," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "We have another quick turnaround and now we will travel back to San Antonio and prepare for Saturday night. We have to learn from tonight and improve."
Phoenix Rising opened the scoring in the 18th minute when forward Chris Cortez tapped in a cross from teammate Kevon Lambert past goalkeeper Diego Restrepo. The hosts doubled their lead just nine minutes later when a mistake in the back allowed midfielder Solomon Asante to score from outside the box into an open net.
The hosts found their third goal of the night when midfielder Devin Vega beat Restrepo with a volley from inside the box just before the halftime break. Phoenix added to their tally in the 64th minute when midfielder Billy Forbes found the back of the net from just inside the box to make it 4-0.
SAFC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo recorded five saves on the night, while defenders Cyprian Hedrick, Stephen McCarthy, and Darnell King recorded five clearances each. The Alamo City club recorded 10 shots on the night.
The loss marks just the first time in franchise history that the club has recorded three consecutive losses. Prior to its current streak, the club had only recorded back to back losses on three occasions since their 2016 inaugural season.
SAFC will face yet another quick turnaround as they host Swope Park Rangers at Toyota Field on Saturday, August 25, presented by Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino-Hotel. The club will then play two consecutive away matches at RGV FC and Real Monarchs SLC.
