PHOENIX - Phoenix Rising held nothing back in a 4-0 win over San Antonio FC. In addition to goals from Chris Cortez and Solomon Asante, former San Antonio players Devin Vega and Billy Forbes each scored a goal in their first match against their previous club.
Cortez started the goal party in the 18th minute. Following a throw in, the ball was sent down the right flank to midfielder Kevon Lambert. He slotted the ball to the right edge of the six-yard box where Cortez redirected it into the far left side of the net to make it 1-0. (GOAL)
Just about 10 minutes later Asante doubled the club's lead, 2-0. As San Antonio goalkeeper Diego Restrepo tried to pass the ball out from the back, he sent it right to Asante. From 25 yards away Asante slotted an easy shot into the empty net. (GOAL)
Vega closed out the scoring in the first half. In stoppage time he received a pass in the middle of the box from Jason Johnson smashing a volley into the back of the net to give the club a 3-0 lead at the break. (GOAL)
Forbes finished off the match's scoring in the 64th minute. After playing a ball out wide to Jason Johnson to the left of the box, Forbes ran into the penalty area. He hit Johnson's pass back to him on the first touch and scored. (GOAL)
Goalkeeper Zac Lubin notched his second consecutive clean sheet of the season. He made three saves in the effort.
Phoenix Rising returns to Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex on Saturday, August 25, against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC for Diplo Bobblehead Night. The first 2,500 fans who enter will receive a Diplo bobblehead that plays the club's goal song.
