San Antonio FC Begins Three-Game Homestand against Seattle Sounders FC 2
September 28, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC (12-12-7) will host Seattle Sounders FC 2 (5-19-5) at Toyota Field on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest Plus as SAFC looks to keep their playoff hopes alive in their first of three consecutive home matches to conclude the USL regular season.
The Alamo City club heads into the match after a tough road trip in which it saw three consecutive losses. SAFC sits in ninth place in the West and just six points behind Saint Louis FC and Swope Park Rangers, and will look to stay alive in the playoff race with a crucial three points at home.
"We're very much alive in the playoff race," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "It's very difficult to predict scores in the USL. The scores all year have been different than what you see based on form, so our job is to make sure we earn points starting on Saturday night to put pressure on the team's above us. It will be a big fight but we're looking forward to that challenge."
The Sounders will look to earn their first win since August 11 on Saturday. The club is currently in last place in the standings on 20 points and is eliminated from playoff contention, however S2 will have something to play for as they look to earn a second win this season against SAFC.
For San Antonio FC, home field advantage will be key as the club looks to win out in their remaining three matches of the season at Toyota Field. While playing at home certainly provides additional motivation, the team is aware and fully prepared to face difficult challenges as they near the conclusion of the regular season.
"Consistency is key in this league and every game has its challenges whether it's at home or away," Powell said. "We certainly faced some challenges last week but now what we're looking for from the players is a positive response. Being at home with familiar surroundings and our amazing fans will help, and it's very important that we come out focused to earn those points and keep the pressure on everyone trying to secure those playoff spots."
The match marks Hispanic Heritage Night presented by Toyota and will feature a postgame fireworks show as well as baile folklorico and mariachi performances, $5 micheladas during the match, and an 'Extra Time' postgame party featuring $1 drinks courtesy of Bud Light.
