TODAY'S NEWS
The 2019 San Antonio Commanders held its fifth of 22 Training Camp practices on Wednesday at Central Catholic High School's Bob Benson '66 Stadium.
The practice started at 11:30 a.m. and finished shortly before 1:15 p.m. with the players wearing full pads for the first time in training camp.
The practice sessions was full speed with contact, but players not taking each other to the ground.
Standouts of the day included defensive lineman Richard Ash (Western Michigan) who excelled in pass rushing drills against offensive linemen and also recovered a fumble during a full team session.
Wide receiver Speedy Noil (Texas A&M) caught every ball thrown his way during the live sessions against the defense. Included in those catches was one with cornerback Jordan Thomas (Oklahoma) in tight coverage and his hand trying to knock the ball out.
Linebacker Nick Temple (Cincinnati) came away with the day's lone interception during team drills as he picked off Logan Woodside (Toledo) on a pass meant for De'Marcus Ayers (Houston).
Wide receiver Mekale McKay (Cincinnati) continues to impress on the outside. His highlight of the day was a deep reception from Dustin Vaughan (QB) on a post route.
In transactions, the Commanders announced the addition of defensive back De'Vante Bausby, bringing its training camp roster to 75.
De'Vante Bausby
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Bausby has appeared in 10 career NFL games, recording 26 tackles (23 solo). He played in four games with the Chicago Bears in 2016 and six games with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this season. He was a member of the Super Bowl LII champion Eagles' practice squad in 2017. As a collegian, Bausby totaled 127 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 11 interceptions in four seasons at Pittsburg State (Kan.). He went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft.
A member of The Alliance of American Football, the San Antonio Commanders have an experienced professional coaching and front office staff led by head coach Mike Riley, general manager Daryl Johnston and team president Vic Gregovits.
The Commanders compete in The Alliance of American Football with the Atlanta Legends, Arizona Hotshots, Birmingham Iron, Memphis Express, Orlando Apollos, Salt Lake Stallions and San Diego Fleet. The Commanders team name draws inspiration from San Antonio's Military City, USA nickname. From Bowie to Travis to the 39,000-plus who graduate each year from military training at Joint Base San Antonio, Commanders have called San Antonio home for more than 300 years.
The Commanders take their first snap on February 9 against the San Diego Fleet with home games being played at the Alamodome.
