Series Notes:
¬Â¢ Second of two meetings on the season between Arlington and San Antonio
¬Â¢ San Antonio sits in third place in the south division while Arlington sits in second
¬Â¢ Arlington won first matchup Mar. 19 by a score of 12-10
BACK TO BACK
The San Antonio Brahmas and Arlington Renegades play each other in back-to-back weeks. The first contest resulted in a 12-10 Arlington victory.
LOW SCORING AFFAIR
In their week five contest, the San Antonio Brahmas and Arlington Renegades combined for only 22 points. The 12-10 final score was the third-lowest final score total in the league this season. The O/U for the first game was 35.5. For the second matchup between the two teams, the O/U is set at 33, a season low throughout the XFL. So far this season, both teams are 1-4 against the O/U. San Antonio is 1-3-1 against the spread while Arlington is 1-4.
BRAHMAS ON D
Five weeks into the XFL season, the San Antonio Brahmas defense has made an impact. The Brahmas rank second in total points allowed (79) and second in points allowed per game (15.8). San Antonio currently leads the XFL in total tackles for loss with 41. The Brahmas' defense also rankes third in the league in total sacks with 12.0. The Brahmas are allowing 276.0 yards per game, which ranks fourth in the league.
SECOND HALF SURGE
San Antonio begins its second half of the season on the road against Arlington this weekend. The Brahmas take on the Vegas Vipers the following weekend in their final road game of the season. A win against the Renegades will give both teams two wins in the south division and keep the Brahmas playoff hopes alive. San Antonio still has home games against Houston and Orlando of the south division before ending the season with a home game against the XFL's top team, DC Defenders.
EVERYONE GETS A PICK
In week five, Brahmas safety Tenny Adewusi intercepted Renegades' QB Kyle Sloter in the first quarter for his first interception of the season. Adewusi became the fourth Brahma in four games to earn an interception. The San Antonio secondary has intercepted four passes this season, and each has come from a different player. Ranthony Texada, Kameron Kelly, Luq Barcoo, and Tenny Adewusi each have an INT to their name.
TOUCHDOWN T.J.
Wide receiver T.J. Vasher became the first Brahmas receiver to multiple touchdown receptions in the week five game against Arlington. Vasher hauled in a six-yard TD pass from QB Reid Sinnett in the first quarter to give the Brahmas an early lead. The score was Vasher's second TD reception of the season, and he now has a touchdown reception in each of his previous two games.
OUT OF THE BACKFIELD
In the week five loss to Arlington, the Brahmas backfield showed off their versatility. Running back's Kalen Ballage and Jacques Patrick each had a season high five receptions while Jonathan Hilliman added another reception out of the backfield. The running back trio combined for 11 receptions and 74 yards, over 50 percent of the teams total passing yards (139).
PUSH 'EM BACK
In the week five loss to Arlington, the Brahmas recorded seven tackles for a loss, inlcluding two sacks for 14 yards. San Antonio currently leads the XFL in total tackles for loss with 41. The Brahmas' defense also rankes third in the league in total sacks with 12.0 through five games.
TOP TEN TACKLERS
Former Baylor defensive captain and current Brahmas linebacker Jordan Williams ranks first in the XFL with 40 total tackles, inlcuding four tackles for loss. In solo tackles, Williams is tied for second (20). Safety Tenny Adewusi ranks first in the league in solo tackles with 21 heading in to week six. As a team, San Antonio is ranked third in the league with 217 total tackles.
THE STANDARD IS THE STANDARD
San Antonio Brahmas Head Coach Hines Ward likes to say "The Standard is the Standard ¬Â, which is something he learned while he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's a saying throughout that organization. Ward added some of that standard to the Brahmas roster. Besides linebackers coach Joey Porter, Ward manage to add five players who either played for the Steelers or experienced training camp or preseason.
The most experienced former Steeler on the Brahmas is punter Brad Wing. Wing saw action in 17 games for the Black & Gold in 2014 as a starter. He also played in the 2014 Wildcard Game against the Ravens. Wing averaged 43.7 yards on 61 punts for the Steelers. His net was 38.6 yards per punt.

THE O-LINE CONNECTION
Starting center Luke Juriga is the son of Jim Juriga who was a starter along the offensive line for the Super Bowl XXIV Champion Denver Broncos. Jim Juriga played three seasons for the Denver Broncos from 1988-90. San Antonio Brahmas offensive line coach Pete Mangurian was hired by Denver Broncos Head Coach Dan Reeves in 1988 to coach Tight ends and H-Backs for his first job in the NFL. Mangurian became the Broncos O-Line coach in 1991. Fast forward to 2023, Mangurian finds himself coaching Jim Juriga's son, Luke.
