Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
It was the same scene on a different stage for the Fort Worth Brahmas Tuesday night against the San Angelo Saints at the San Angelo Coliseum. For the second consecutive game, and for the third time in their last five contests, the Brahmas suffered a one goal loss, dropping a 2-1 decision to the first place team in the Southwest Division.
When the Saints Tyler Knight scored just 33 seconds into the game, it looked like the Brahmas could be in trouble. Fort Worth however, did not let the early goal faze them. The Brahmas played the Saints tooth and nail after Knight's early score, peppering Saints goaltender Scott Reid with shots, particularly early on in the second period. Reid, who entered the game with a 2.24 goals against average, was up to the challenge, keeping the Brahmas off the board through the first two periods of play. San Angelo pushed their lead to 2-0 midway through the second period, when Ryan Finnerty scored his team high ninth goal of the season at the 7:38 mark of the period.
The gritty Brahmas refused to go away, however, as their defense tightened, and they continued to attack the Saints. Fort Worth goaltender Erasmo Saltarelli did not allow another Saints goal as he kept the Brahmas alive. The Brahmas finally found a way to beat Reid, when they capitalized on a 5 on 3 power play late in the third period as center Jeff Scharf scored his team high fifth goal of the season with just 3:54 left in regulation. The Brahmas battled for the tying goal, pulling Saltarelli with 1:11 left, but they could not get the equalizer, and the Saints held on for the win.
The loss drops the Brahmas record to 2-6-3 on the season. With the win, San Angelo improved to 8-4-0. Fort Worth will be off until this Saturday, Nov. 15, when they host the Memphis RiverKings at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Face off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
