Indianapolis Ice News Release

DOWN WITH THE "KINGS": A weekend sweep of the Memphis RiverKings was on the menu last weekend as the Ice earned a 5-0 win on Friday and a 3-2 victory on Saturday over the CHL's defending champs. With the wins, the Ice improved to 22-19-6 all-time against the "Kings" and lead the series this year with a 2-1-0 record. Bernie John led the team with six points in the wins, while seven other players tallied goals. Jeff Sanger earned both wins between the pipes.

ANOTHER WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S: Ice captain and three-time all-star defenseman Bernie John made franchise history in Friday's 5-0 win over Memphis. With five assists in the game, John broke the CHL Ice record and tied the all-time Ice record for assists in a game, while he passed Chris MacKenzie for most assists in Ice franchise history. With six assists for the entire weekend, he has 213 for his Ice career and enters this week's play tied with Memphis' Derek Landmesser for top-scoring defenseman in the CHL with 12 points on the year.

NORFOLK BOUND: The Ice will begin the week without the services of starting netminder, Jeff Sanger, who was recalled by the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League. Sanger, 24, is coming off an impressive weekend as he posted back to back wins over Memphis which included a shutout, 1.00 goals-against-average and a .952 save percentage. For the season, Sanger has started seven games and recorded a 4-3-0 record, 2.28 GAA and a .914 save percentage. Sanger takes the roster spot of Craig Anderson, who was recalled by the Chicago Blackhawks due to an injury to Jocelyn Thibault.

DAZZLING "D": The Ice is having its best ten-game start in franchise history when it comes to the department of goals allowed per game. Indy has only allowed 20 goals in the team's first nine games (2.22) and ranks second in the CHL in that category behind only Laredo (2.00). The team's best early season performance was 30 goals allowed in its first ten games which the club accomplished in both the 1999-00 and 2002-03 seasons. In addition, the team's penalty killing unit has been improving steadily as the club has killed off 15 of its last 16 opponents' attempts and enters this weeks' contests third in the league at 87.8%.

PLAYER PLAYBACKS: Dave Gilmore registered the team's second multiple goal game of the year on Saturday and he has three points (2G, 1A) in his last two games....Mario Doyon and Jason Baird have three points (1G, 2A) in their last two games...Russ Guzior is two assists shy of 150 for his pro career....Jared Dumba had two goals in the previous meeting against Bossier-Shreveport...Jason Selleke returns to haunt Wichita as he amassed 15 points (5G, 10A) two years ago against the Thunder.

TEAM TIDBITS: With a win Tuesday, the Ice would be 6-3-1 (13 pts) and equal its best ten-game start in CHL franchise history (5-2-3, 13 pts in 2000-01)....The Ice was 10-0-1 against Wichita last season... The Ice has played the least amount of road games (1) in the CHL entering this week's play...Indy is first in the league in shots per game (36.3) and second in the league in shots allowed per game (26.6).
