San Angelo Signs Pitcher Barnard

San Angelo, Texas - One of the best pitchers in San Angelo Colts' modern franchise history is back.
The Colts announced Thursday that they have signed Chandler Barnard. The 27-year-old righthander pitched for San Angelo in 2010 and 2011.
In 2010, Barnard went 8-3 with a 2.99 earned-run average in 16 games and 15 starts. Then in 2011, he led the pitching staff with a 12-2 record and a 3.25 earned-run average in 18 games and 17 starts. Barnard has the lowest earned-run average in franchise history at 3.20.
Barnard split the first half of this season between the El Paso Diablos and Amarillo Sox of the independent American Association. He combined to go 0-2 with an 8.42 earned-run average in 27 relief appearances with the two clubs. Although he has only pitched out of the bullpen this year, manager Doc Edwards plans to use Barnard in the starting rotation.
Now in his fifth professional season, Barnard is 23-18 lifetime with a 4.45 earned-run average in 134 games and 44 starts.
In addition to signing Barnard, the Colts have activated catcher Nate Alter. A San Angelo native and Angelo State University alum, Alter has served as the Colts' bullpen catcher since joining the team on June 21. Alter will continue his role as the bullpen catcher, but he is now also eligible to be in the lineup.
In order to make room for Barnard and Alter on the active roster, the Colts have also placed infielder Ryan Hutson and relief pitcher Alfredo Caballero on the Inactive List.
The Colts make these moves just prior to their four-game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The series opener is tonight at 7:05 p.m., and it can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.
The Colts conclude their seven-game road trip with a four-game set against the Edinburg Roadrunners from Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28. The Colts then return home for their last 12-game home stand of the regular season on Tuesday, July 30.
