
Cats Drop Game One in Harlingen

The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (30-29) out hit the Fort Worth Cats (37-23) 15 to 7. The Wings where led by Albert Carpen's 4-for-5 night in route to a 10-4 victory Thursday night at Harlingen field.
Fort Worth scored first with an RBI single off the bat of David Bergin scoring Daniel Meeley and Mark Sobolewski giving Fort Worth an early 2-0 lead.
Cody Bishop later scored on an error from Goose Kallunki at first making it 3-0. David Bergin belted his United League-leading 10th home run giving the Cats a 4-0 lead.
RGV powered back with four runs in the bottom of the third inning, Paul Montalbano scored the first run on a passed ball, Troy Zawadzki later scored on an infield single cutting the lead in half 4-2.
The Wings scored two more runs thanks to a two run RBI double from Cole Walla scoring Carpen and Thomas Shull tying the game at 4-4 even.
Shull and Kieran Bradford would give the Wings a two run advantage in the bottom of the fifth inning. making it 6-4 Wings. The two run lead was the first lead for RGV.
RGV would grab insurance runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, RGV out hit Fort Forth 15 to 7. Taking game one of the series. With the win the Wings jump a game over the .500 mark.
Brett Kennedy (6-2) was credited with the win. RGV looks to gain some ground with the race for the post season heats up.
Game two of the series is set for Friday July 26th with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
