San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The Edinburg Roadrunners scored early and often, and then narrowly avoided a ninth inning collapse to earn a 10-8 victory against the San Angelo Colts Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Edinburg took a 2-0 lead in the first, courtesy of an RBI single by third baseman Travis Clark and a solo home run by catcher Dan Coury. It was Coury's team-best sixth homer of the year.

The Roadrunners led San Angelo 5-0 after three innings, and held a commanding 10-5 lead entering the ninth. The top-third of Edinburg's lineup drove in six of the 10 runs, and scored five of them.

The Colts rallied for three runs in the ninth, as right fielder Cody Hudson, second baseman Jon Dziomba, and left fielder Joseph Hicks all scored. However, Edinburg closer Alex Schmarzo recorded the final two outs of the inning to prevent a complete meltdown and earn his second save.

Colts' starter Corey Frerichs (4-6) suffered his fifth loss in a row. He gave up seven runs, five earned, on eight hits in four innings. Roadrunners' starter Cullen Babin (2-0) allowed five runs, two earned, on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings for the win.

The victory improves Edinburg to 30-30, while the loss drops San Angelo to 27-30. The Colts are now on a four-game losing streak for the second time this season.

This series continues with game two Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 6:55 p.m.

The Colts conclude their seven-game road trip with a four-game set against the Edinburg Roadrunners from Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28. The Colts then return home for their last 12-game home stand of the regular season on Tuesday, July 30.
