TAMPA - The Arena Football League named Tampa Bay Storm wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels Ironman of the Month for his effort on offense and defense in June. He also received Ironman of the week in Weeks 9, 12 and 17.
"What more can I say about Lawrence," said Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum. "He really picked up his play and helped us out a lot this season. He has a knack for making plays."
Samuels (6-foot-2, 210-pounds, Livingston) accounted for five receiving touchdowns, registered seven tackles, one pass defensed and one interception in three games for the Tampa Bay Storm (8-8). Samuels' best performance came in Week 16 as he recorded a team-high 11 receptions for 94 yards and three touchdowns along with two-and-a-half tackles in a 73-70 loss to San Jose.
Other award winners for the month of June include Grand Rapids Rampage quarterback James MacPherson, San Jose SaberCats defensive back Clevan Thomas, Chicago Rush receiver Donovan Morgan and Grand Rapids Rampage kicker Brian Gowins. They earned Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, Rookie, and Kicker of the Month, respectively, for the month of June
The Tampa Bay Storm look forward to next season as many key players from 2008 will return. All-Arena defensive lineman Tim McGill, quarterback Brett Dietz, fullback Torrance Marshall, wide receivers Hank Edwards and Tyrone Timmons among others will be back to take the 2009 AFL season by storm.
