Samuel Urban Named to 2024 Slovakia World Junior Team

Sioux City, IA - Sioux City Musketeers goalie, Samuel Urban, has been named to the 2024 Slovakian National Junior Team preliminary roster.

Urban is one of 29 players named to the Slovakian preliminary roster. The team will gather for training camp to earn a spot on the final 25-player roster that will compete in the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2023 - Jan. 5, 2024, in Gothenburg, Sweden.

An Arizona State commit, Urban is in his second season with the Musketeers. This season in 14 games he holds a 6-6-2 record with a 3.49 GAA and a 0.879 save percentage.

Last season in four contests Urban was 2-0-0 with a 0.918 save percentage and a 2.80 GAA. In total with the Musketeers, Urban has been between the pipes in 18 games with an 8-6-2 record and has authored a 3.37 GAA to go with a 0.887 save percentage.

A native of Dolne Kockovce, Slovakia, this will not be Urban's first taste of international play for his home nation. He was in net for Slovakia this past April during the U18 World Championships. Urban carried Slovakia to the semi-final round of the World Championship Tournament for the first time since 2003. This included a 54 save performance in the Slovakian's quarterfinal victory over Finland.

Urban is one of four goalies named to the Slovakian National Junior Team preliminary roster, including fellow USHL goalie for the Green Bay Gamblers, Adam Gajan. In total there are five current USHL players on the Slovakian National Junior Team preliminary roster

Slovakia opens up the tournament on December 26th against the Czech Republic. And will face the United States on December 31st.
