FORT MYERS, Fla. - Bryan Sammons tossed six strong innings and Royce Lewis hit a key late home run, as the Miracle held off the Clearwater Threshers, 3-2, on Friday night at Hammond Stadium.

Sammons (1-1) allowed just three hits and one run. He walked one and struck out six to earn his first win with the Miracle. Jovani Moran threw the final three innings and picked up his fourth save.

Clearwater opened the scoring with a run in the second inning on an RBI single from Kyle Martin.

Fort Myers answered with two runs in the third. Taylor Grzelakowski delivered a sacrifice-fly and Jose Miranda scored on a wild pitch by Clearwater starter Alejandro Requena.

Lewis provided the Miracle with some breathing room when he lined a solo homer down the left field line in the eighth. Mikey Moniak hit a two-out home run for Clearwater in the ninth off Moran, but that's as close as they would come.

Fort Myers remains 0.5 ahead of Charlotte in the South Division Second Half standings.

The three-game series continues on Saturday night at Hammond stadium. First pitch from Hammond Stadium is 6:00 p.m.
