St. Lucie Mets News Release
DUNEDIN, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets held on to beat the Dunedin Blue Jays 2-1 at Dunedin Stadium on Friday.
Four Mets pitchers combined to shut down the opposing offense in the series opening victory. Starter David Peterson pitched five scoreless innings to get the win. He gave up just two singles, walked three and struck out five. Peterson threw 86 pitches.
The Blue Jays loaded the bases against Peterson in the first inning, but Peterson escaped trouble by getting Brock Lundquist to fly out to left field.
Peterson has not allowed a run in his last two starts (11 innings, four hits and 14 strikeouts).
Austin McGeorge induced an inning-ending double play in the seventh inning to strand the tying run at third base.
Thomas McIlraith tossed scoreless eighth.
Matt Pobereyko worked around a leadoff error in the ninth and stranded the tying run at second base when Ivan Castillo grounded out to shortstop to end the game.
Pobereyko improved to 10 for 10 in save chances.
The Mets scored their runs on Gene Cone's two-run double in the second inning.
Jay Bruce (hip), playing in his third rehab game with St. Lucie, went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts. He played seven innings in right field.
