LAST NIGHT: The Tarpons salvaged a win in the series-finale at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium by rallying for six runs in the 9th to defeat the Palm Beach Cardinals, 10-6...Palm Beach won the series, 3-1, and the season-series ended at 4-4...LHP Dalton Lehnen held the Cardinals to 2ER in 5.2IP (7H, 1BB, 2K, HR, 77P/51S)...Diego Castillo (2-for-4, 2B, Sac-F, 3RBI, R) tied the score with a two-run double in the 6th...Ben Ruta (1-for-4, HBP, 2RBI) delivered a go-ahead, two-run single in the 8th...Palm Beach took back the lead with four runs in the 8th off LHP Justin Kamplain (1.1IP, 0H, 1ER, 1BB, 0K) and RHP Kyle Zurak (BS, 2)(W, 1-2)(1.2IP, 5H, 3ER, 2BB, 2K)...Tampa loaded the bases in the 9th and an RBI single by Hoy Jun Park (2-for-5, RBI, 3R) and a sacrifice fly by Castillo tied the game at 6-6...Later on, Dom Thompson-Williams (1-for-4, 3B, BB, 3RBI, R) hit a three-run triple before scoring on a wild pitch to cap the six-run inning...RHP Hobie Harris (SV, 1) got the save (0.1IP, 1K).
LET'S GO STREAKING: Dom Thompson-Williams extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Over that span, the 23-year-old is batting .375 (18-for-48) with 14 runs scored. In August (15 games), Thompson-Williams is batting .345 (19-for-55) with 4HR, 13RBI and 10BB.
RUTA'S RAKING: Ben Ruta has hit safely in seven-straight games, batting .414 (12-for-29) with 11 RBI in that span. Over his last 27 games, Ruta is hitting .373 (38-for-102) with 22RBI and 14 runs scored. The 24-year-old also leads all Yankees minor-leaguers with 36 stolen bases.
VS. DAYTONA: Tonight will be the seventh of 12 games scheduled between the Tampa Tarpons and Daytona Tortugas. Daytona leads the season-series, 4-2. Tampa is 1-2 in those games played at GMS Field. In six games against the Tortugas, Angel Aguilar is batting .333 (7-for-21) with 2R, 1 double, 1 triple, 1HR, 2RBI and 1BB.
GARCIA NAMED FSL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: On Monday, the Florida State League named RHP Deivi Garcia the latest FSL Pitcher of the Week. The 19-year-old tied a career-high with 12 strikeouts over 7.0 perfect innings in a no-decision vs. Clearwater in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Monday, August 6th. Garcia joins RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (April 5th-15th) as Tarpons to have received the award in 2018.
1,000 K CLUB: The Tarpons' pitching staff became the first to reach 1,000 strikeouts in the Florida State League this season. Tampa leads the league in strikeouts, totaling 1,137K entering today. That is 72K more than the team ranked second (Clearwater - 1,065). Tampa is averaging 9.24K-per-game and is on pace for 1,294K, which would beat its own FSL single-season strikeout record set last season with 1,215K.
STRIKEOUTS FOR A CAUSE: The Tarpons have partnered with the American Cancer Society. Throughout the month of August, each time a strikeout is recorded by a Tampa pitcher, money will be raised for cancer research. The Tarpons are asking fans to donate $1.00 for every time a Tampa pitcher strikes out an opposing batter in the 31 games scheduled for August. BABY BOMBERS: The Tarpons currently lead the league with 94 home runs. No other team has more than 89.
FOR STARTERS: RHP Albert Abreu (3-3, 4.30) will make his 12th start of the season. Last time out, made his first start back off the disabled list and took a no-decision at Bradenton on 8/11 (4.0IP, 5H, 2ER, 1BB, 4K, HB, WP, 62P/41S)...Placed on the disabled list on 6/29 and began a rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League on 7/27, going 0-3 with a 23.40 ERA (5.0IP, 14H, 14R/13ER, 2BB, 5K, 1HB) in three starts...Began the season on the disabled list after undergoing emergency appendectomy in February.
2017: Began the season with Single-A Charleston, going 1-0 with a 1.84 ERA (14.2IP, 3ER) in three games (two starts) before being promoted to Tampa on 4/23, where he went 1-3 with a 4.19 ERA (34.1IP, 16ER) in nine starts...Missed nearly three months over two stints on the disabeld list with elbow inflammation...made two rehab starts in th GCL, allowing 1ER in 4.1IP...Pitched for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League, going 1-2 with a 2.60 ERA (27.2IP, 8ER) in six starts...was named the AFL "Pitcher of the Week" for the period from 10/16-21.
Personal: 22-years-old, 6-2, 175 - Guayubin, Dominican Republic...Acquired from Houston, along with RHP Jorge Guzman, in exchange for C Brian McCann on 11/17/16...Originally signed by the Astros as a non-drafted free agent on 8/5/13....Ranked as the No. 6 Yankees prospect by Baseball America and the No. 4 Yankees prospect by MLB Pipeline...added to the 40-man roster on 11/20/17...full name is Albert Enmanuel Abreu Dias.
