Same Story, Different Night. Cyclones Lose in Extras 5-3

BROOKLYN, NY - July 1, 2016 - After waiting out an hour and 48 minutes of rain delays, the Cyclones needed 10 innings to decide a winner as the Tigers won by the score of 5-3. It was the sixth time in 15 games that Brooklyn needed extra innings, and the fifth time that they have come out on the losing end. Erik Manoah started on the mound for his third time this season, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings before running into trouble in the top of the third as the Tigers put a pair of runs on the board to take an early 2-0 lead. The Miami born RHP allowed six hits in 5.0 innings pitched and matched his career high of nine strikeouts; a feat he last accomplished in August 2014 with the Gulf Coast League Mets. Things didn't heat up for the Cyclones until the bottom of the sixth, when Brandon Brosher stepped up to smash a solo homerun to left field, his second homer in three games after recently crushing a grand slam on the road at State College. The Brooklyn bats were not done swinging, as Darryl Knight brought home Jacob Zanon with an RBI single to left field to tie the game 2-2. RHP Raul Jacobson came in relief for Manoah, allowing just three hits and striking out five, leading the Cyclones from the mound as they headed into the tenth. After cruising through his first 4.0 innings of relief, Jacobson ran into trouble to start the tenth. The righthander plunked Will Savage with a fastball allowing him to reach base with the go-ahead run. Savage advanced after Cole Baumi singled ground ball to left field. RHP Joseph Zanghi came to the mound in relief but all it took was a single from Josh Lester to start bringing in the runs for the Tigers as he hit an RBI single to centerfield to send Savage home and break the tie . Sam Machonis then blasted a sacrifice fly centerfield allowing Baumi to score. Lester then tacked on another run for the Tigers to take 5-2 lead after scoring on a line drive to centerfield from Anthony Pereira. The Cyclones attempted to retaliate after Colby Woodmansee singled a grounder to right field and was then brought home on a line drive double by Jacob Zanon to inch the Cyclones up 5-3, but the contest ended with the Tigers taking the victory. The Cyclones will look to redeem themselves as they take on Connecticut in the second game of the series tomorrow July 2, and with a beautiful forecast the first pitch is set for 6:00 P.M. Gabriel Llanes will start from the mound for Brooklyn for his fourth time this season, and in addition to the game the first 2,000 fans will receive Roger McDowell bobble head in honor of our third annual Seinfeld Night.
