BROOKLYN, NY - For the second time this season, the Connecticut Tigers (8-6) prevailed in extra-innings. Tonight, after an hour and 39 minute rain delay, the Tigers took game one against the Brooklyn Cyclones, 5-3.

Austin Sodders got the nod for the Tigers and pitched well in his second start of the year. Sodders threw three scoreless frames, allowing one hit and striking out two. Connecticut took the lead in the third, after a Cole Bauml (3-5, 2B, SB) double put runners at second and third. Josh Lester (1-5, 2 RBI) drove in the first run on an RBI groundout to first. Sam Machonis (1-3, 2 RBI) delivered a two-out RBI-single to give Connecticut a 2-0 advantage.

The game remained that way until the sixth when the Cyclones scored a couple to knot the game up at 2. The Cyclones threatened for more but John Schreiber came out of the bullpen and induced an inning ending 6-4-3 double play.

The Cyclones looked like they would have a chance to walk-off in the bottom of the ninth. With a runner at second and one out, Mark Ecker was able to strike out Berrios and coax a fly out to right to get out of the jam and send the game to extras.

In the 10th, the Tigers jumped on reliever Raul Jacobsen who had tossed four scoreless innings to that point. Will Savage (2-4, 2R) led off the inning with a hit by pitch, soon after Cole Bauml grounded a single through the left side to set the stage for Josh Lester. Lester stroked an RBI-single to center to give Connecticut the 3-2 lead. Sam Machonis and Anthony Pereira chipped in RBI's to give the Tigers a little breathing room in the 10th.

Up three in the bottom of the 10th, the Cyclones grabbed a run back but Jay Jabs flew out to right field to end the ballgame. Emanuel Chavez recorded his first save of the year and Mark Ecker earned his first professional win out of the pen.

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid-June through early September. 2016 season tickets, group tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale!
