
Salmon Kings Sign Painchaud

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed forward Chad Painchaud (PAYNE-show) for the 2009-10 season.
The Mississauga, Ontario native spent the 2008-09 season split between the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL and the Iowa Chops of the American Hockey League (AHL). In 57 games last season as a Condor, Painchaud scored 20 goals and added 44 assists for 64 points with 46 minutes in penalties. Painchaud also participated in all seven of the Condors' Kelly Cup playoff games this past spring leading the team in scoring with 10 points (2g-8a) and 23 minutes in penalties. In 16 games in Iowa he scored three goals and assisted on three others for six points.
"Chad is a great skater who has consistently put up numbers," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He has been under NHL contract for the last three years (Atlanta and Anaheim) and we are very excited to add him to our roster."
The 6-1, 184 lb. Painchaud also split the 2007-08 season between the AHL (Chicago Wolves) and ECHL (Gwinnett Gladiators). The majority of his season was played with the Wolves where he accumulated three points (1g-2a) in 22 games while serving 13 minutes in penalties. In 10 games with Gwinnett, the forward scored eight goals and five assists for 13 points with 17 penalty minutes.
The 23-year-old's professional career began with a full season in Gwinnett in 2006-07 where he notched 54 points (22g-32a) in 72 games played. This also included 71 minutes in penalties. In four games with Gwinnett in the Kelly Cup Playoffs that spring Painchaud scored five points (0g-5a) and served four minutes in penalties.
For his professional career, Painchaud has participated in 177 games scoring 140 points (54g-86a) and accruing 147 minutes in penalties. In 15 career professional playoff games he has 16 points (2g-14a) and 27 penalty minutes.
Painchaud was a fourth round pick (#106 overall) of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Painchaud spent his entire three-year junior career in the OHL with both the Mississauga IceDogs (2003-04) and the Sarnia Sting (2004-05). For his career he played in 174 games amassing 148 points (69g-79a) while garnering 123 minutes in penalties.
