Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - Victoria Salmon Kings Head Coach and General Manager Bryan Maxwell continues to build a strong presence in his own zone with the signing of veteran defenseman Chad Dameworth.
The Edmonton Oilers in the 1994 NHL Supplemental Draft selected the 6'2, 215 native of Marquette, Michigan. His professional career began with the Cape Breton Oilers in the AHL and he enters his 12th season of professional hockey with Salmon Kings.
"We are very pleased to add another big strong defenseman that will bring leadership and experience to our team. Chad played 79 games last season making him a reliable horse for the upcoming year," said Bryan Maxwell, Head Coach and General Manager of the Victoria Salmon Kings.
Dameworth is well known to Salmon Kings Vice President of Hockey Operations, Dan Belisle. Belisle who has known Dameworth since he was 16 years old, coached him with the Kalamazoo Jr. Wings (North American Junior Hockey League) and ultimately helped him move to the NCAA with the Northern Michigan University.
The 33 year old is a reliable defensive defenseman who has followed Belisle throughout his professional career, making stops in New Orleans and Atlantic City. His attention to detail in his own zone and effort to keep the puck out of his own net has rewarded him on several occasions with call-ups to the AHL.
Dameworth has played 104 games in the American Hockey League with the San Jose Sharks former affiliate Kentucky Thoroughblades, Los Angeles Kings affiliate Manchester Monarchs and Edmonton Oilers former affiliate Cape Breton Oilers.
He has played 292 in the ECHL, scoring a total of seven goals and 45 assists for 52 points with the Wheeling Thunderbirds, Johnstown Chiefs, Mississippi Sea Wolves, New Orleans Brass and Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. Dameworth has played a total of 635 games in professional hockey.
"When I've look to build a solid defensive core I've always look to build around Chad. In my experience in the ECHL, Chad is one of the best defensemen in the league and this is a huge signing for the Victoria Salmon Kings," said Belisle.
Dameworth's size and experience will be a welcomed addition to the Salmon Kings back end.
Dameworth joins defensemen Joel Andresen, Kurt Drummond, Nate Forster and Craig Zubersky. Maxwell has signed a total of seven forwards including Derek Campbell, Mike Josephson, Kevin Marsh, Corey Smith, Jan Sochor, Ryan Wade and Mike Wirll. Maxwell has also signed goaltender Rob Muntain.
