Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with 24-year-old Ryan Jorde.

The 6-foot-3, 225-lb Defenseman was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the ninth round (#279 overall) of the 2001 NHL entry draft. In his professional career, Jorde has logged 129 games in the American Hockey League (AHL) and 66 games in the United Hockey League (UHL).

"Ryan will add a strong and physical presence to our defensive core, and will be a good resource for our rookie players through his over 100 games of experience in the American Hockey League," said Tony MacAulay, Salmon Kings Head Coach. "The dimension he brings night in and night out will help not just our defensive system, but our team as a whole."

The native of Kelowna, British Columbia began his career in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Tri-City Americans in 1997-98. In five seasons and 216 games between Tri-City, the Lethbridge Hurricanes, and the Moose Jaw Warriors, Jorde tallied 33 points (4 goals, 29 assists) and 492 penalty minutes.

Jorde jumped into the AHL in 2002, and played three seasons with the Rochester Americans, with two of those seasons alongside current Salmon Kings veteran Steve Lingren. Jorde collected 7 points (1 goal, 6 assists) and 218 penalty minutes.

He spent last season between the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters and Grand Rapids Griffins, and the UHL's Danbury Trashers and Fort Wayne Komets. He played a majority of the year with the Komets and finished with a +22 plus/minus rating, 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists), and 107 penalty minutes in 60 games.

"Being a member of the Victoria Salmon Kings is an excellent chance for me to move up to the AHL again," said Jorde. "This will be a good season for me to get back on track and help the team."

"Ryan and I had some great conversations this summer and I believe his objectives are a match to ours as we aggressively pursue success. Ryan is a welcomed addition to our blueline," said Dan Belisle, Vice-President of Hockey Operations and General Manager.
