Salem Red Sox News Release

After three straight washouts at LewisGale Field, the Salem Red Sox and Potomac Nationals are scheduled to play five games in three days, starting with a doubleheader tonight at Pfitzner Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05.

Potomac Struggles: The Salem Sox started the season winning three of their first four games against Potomac. But it has been a struggle ever since. Salem has dropped ten consecutive games to Potomac dating back to May 30th. The Sox have been outscored 70-32 in those ten losses. Salem has been held to two runs or less in five straight games against the P-Nats. Of the ten losses, six have been by three runs or less, including four by just one run. Three of the defeats were by seven runs or more.

Streaking: Matty Johnson extended his hit streak to ten straight games Thursday night, holding a .405 average (17/42) over that span. Johnson has hit two home runs, driven home nine runs, and scored ten in the last ten contests. This comes on the heels of an excellent month of July, in which Johnson finished with a .323 aver- age (30/93), and an impressive .447 on base percentage. He leads the Sox with 32 multi-hit games.

Call to the Bullpen: Salem received RHP Taylor Grover from Class-A Greenville before Thursday night's contest. The right hander ap- peared in 20 games for the Drive this season, posting a 4.73 ERA (24 ER/45.2 IP). A 10th round pick in 2013, Grover pitched to a 2.63 ERA in 15 appearances in Short-Season Lowell last year. Grover was a third team DII All-American at USC-Akien in 2013 before being draft- ed, holding a miniscule 0.92 ERA in 31 games.

New Backstop: The Sox received Jake Romanski from Class-A Green- ville before Wednesday night's game, taking the spot vacated by Carson Blair's promotion to AA Portland. Romanski spent all of the 2014 season to this point with Greenville, amassing a .270 average in 78 games with the Drive. Romanski hit one home run and drove in 44 runs, with 24 walks and 39 strikeouts in 300 at-bats in a Drive uniform. He went 1-6, catching all fourteen innings Wednesday night in his first Carolina League start.

Notable Nuggets: The Salem Sox are already 88% of the way to their home run total in July (8) through six games in August (7). The Sox seventh home run in July didn't come until the team's 24th game of the month on July 27th against Myrtle Beach.

The Salem Sox are just 7-21 against Potomac and Frederick this sea- son, while they are 46-39 against the rest of the Carolina League. In the second half of the season, Salem is 2-13 against the Keys and P- Nats, and 18-12 against everyone else.

Dating back to 2012, Salem is 29-12 (.707) in its last 41 games played in the month of August.

10 of Salem's last 19 losses overall have been by two runs or less.

In the months of May and June, Salem was 18-10 at home while only 7-21 on the road. Conversely, in July and August thus far, Salem is only 5-14 at home, versus 9-5 on the road.
