Salem RidgeYaks News Release

Salem and Lynchburg duel in another doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in the Hill City.

First pitch at 2:05..

Play Two Part Two: For the second straight day, the Salem Sox arrive to City Stadium ready for a doubleheader. After Saturday's split, the Sox reside five games behind the first-place duo of Myrtle Beach and Winston-Salem with ten games remaining in the half. Sunday's action will be Salem's third doubleheader in the past week. The Sox swept the Dash in a twin-bill on Monday before splitting the two contests with the Hillcats on Saturday. After today, the Sox will be back at LewisGale Field for the remainder of the first half, with three games against Wilmington the next three nights preceding five games in four days with Lynchburg leading into the All-Star Break.

Mike and Mike (in the Afternoon): Mike Augliera and Mike McCarthy have both been reliable righties for the Salem Sox in 2013, and the duo will take the mound in this afternoon's double dip. Augliera is looking to bounce back from by far his roughest outing as a pro, a very uncharacteristic effort that saw him last just one-third of an inning against the Dash. In his previous ten starts, Augliera went at least five innings every time. Meanwhile, McCarthy has been dominant in each of his last two starts through the fourth inning. Unfortunately, both times the wheels came off the wagon in the fifth. After shutting down his foe completely in the first four, McCarthy surrendered 10 runs (six earned) in the fifth inning in his last two starts, failing to complete the fifth both times. He has completed five innings five times, with all of his wins coming in those games.

Homers with Friends?: Henry Ramos has belted three home runs in Salem's last four games, giving him six dingers on the year. But each and every one of his round-trippers has been a solo shot. Brandon Jacobs also has six home runs, all being solo shots. Team leader Sean Coyle has 10 homers, and nine of them have come with the bases empty. As a team, the Sox have hit 38 home runs in 60 games, but 29 of those blasts have been solo shots. Garin Cecchini, Keury De La Cruz, and David Renfroe share the team lead with two multi-run homers apiece on the season.

A League of His Own: With his 23rd multi-hit game of the year on Saturday, Garin Cecchini is now batting .351 on the season. He's one of three qualifiers batting above .300 in the league. Carolina's Tyler Naquin and Jerrud Sabourin are hitting .307 and .303, respectively.

The All-Star Trio: Garin Cecchini and Blake Swihart were both selected as starters for the upcoming Carolina League-California League All-Star Game, to be held at the home of the San Jose Giants on Tuesday, June 18. In addition, Henry Owens will be a part of a stacked Carolina League pitching staff at the Advanced-A midsummer showcase. Each of these three players are currently ranked among the top ten Boston Red Sox prospects by Baseball America.

Score!: Two more games on Saturday, and the Sox found the scoreboard in both, extending Salem's streak to 79 straight games with at least one run. The Sox have not been shutout since August 12, 2012 at Wilmington. Salem is the only team in the CL to score at least one in every game so far in 2013.
