SALEM, VA - The Salem Red Sox and The Salvation Army are launching a toy drive during the Red Sox "Christmas in July" theme night on Friday, July 22. Any fan that donates a toy at the 7:05 p.m. game will receive two free tickets to a future Salem Red Sox home game.

"Although it's the middle of summer, we can still give back to those families in need," said Salem Red Sox general manager Todd Stephenson. "Our fans have responded generously to our ‚¬ËœChristmas in July' games the last couple seasons and we hope to donate even more toys this year."

"Christmas in July" will feature Christmas music throughout the ballpark, Salvation Army kettles, Christmas-themed promotions, and an appearance by Santa Claus and his elves. Fans are encouraged to dress in their most festive Christmas garb because there will be an award for "Most Spirited Fan."

The Salvation Army will use the toys collected during "Christmas in July" night for their Angel Tree program in December. With community support The Salvation Army sponsors the Angel Tree program to provide Christmas gifts to needy children age 12 and younger. Individuals, businesses and community groups are encouraged to adopt an angel and provide his/her holiday wishes. In 2010, more than 3,000 children received a bundle of presents through the Angel Tree program.
